“There has to be a better way to undergo treatment and achieve recovery.”
These were the overriding thoughts of Dan Lummis, founder and CEO of Orchard on the Brazos, and his wife and co-founder, Brandy Lummis, upon completing their own stays at residential substance abuse treatment facilities. They, alongside many members of the Orchard team, have been through these treatment centers as residents and, along the way, acquired a deep understanding of what they liked and disliked and what worked and what didn’t work—and why treatment can often be viewed as an unappealing, infantilizing, and overly punitive experience by so many. With this perspective, Dan and Brandy were inspired to elevate the treatment experience and help others realize greater success. The Orchard was created in 2019 based on their vision that treatment could be comfortable and even pleasant given the right service-oriented, hospitality-driven approach and a desirable setting.
We make all operational decisions with the best interest of our residents and the effectiveness of our treatment in mind—not with what simply drives profit. And our owners are highly accessible and visible. When you drive up to our property, you’ll see a sign that says “Dan’s Office”—that’s the CEO and his door’s always open.
We value relationships over transactions. We call everyone by name and know each of our resident’s stories before they arrive here. When you first call us to seek treatment, you won’t engage with anonymous personnel at remote call centers who you’ll likely never meet or talk to again. At the Orchard, you’ll have a consistent point of contact to guide you through the admissions process up to check-in, answer all your questions, and greet you on-site upon your arrival. During this time, we want to learn about you and your unique circumstances and needs so we can deliver the best care for you. Find out more about the admissions process here. In accordance with our guiding philosophy, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. Everyone is different, so no two treatment plans are alike. Learn more about treatment here.
Often, we hear from others that the Orchard is like a small town, with its collection of quaint farmhouse-style structures and plenty of friendly faces on a first-name basis strolling by. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a community of people who are at different points in their treatment journey. We encourage our residents to connect and share their experiences and wisdom with each other via one-on-one conversations, group sessions, and alumni fellowship. We also welcome families to participate in their loved one’s treatment, hosting family members on weekends and inviting them to monthly events. In fact, even family members of current residents and alumni gather to provide support and fellowship. You could say we’re one big family at the Orchard.
The Orchard employs a large enough clinical staff to enable us to offer residents individualized care and a greater level of personal attention than what is typically available at other treatment facilities. Residents get to meet one on one with chemical dependency and mental health counselors multiple times per week, in addition to group sessions. Our care team includes an on-site, full-time physician; nurses; counselors; and access to a board-certified psychiatrist. Residents also enjoy 24-hour access to our medical team.
From the beauty and peacefulness of our surroundings to the luxuriousness of our facilities and accommodations, our residents’ time at the Orchard is defined by total comfort and privacy. Each resident gets their own bedroom, where they can retreat into their personal space to relax, enjoy alone time, and conduct phone calls with loved ones at ease. In each accommodation, we’ve incorporated the highest quality into every detail, from the décor to even the mattress, pillows, and crisp white linens. Furthermore, our residents don’t have to think about anything except their own recovery—we’ve got daily housekeeping and laundry services covered and offer delicious meals crafted by our on-site chef.
The #1 requirement to stay at the Orchard is willingness. No one has to be here, they get to be here. Because residents are all over 18, here voluntarily, and committed to making a positive, lifelong change, we treat everyone like the adults they are, with respect, dignity, and courtesy. That’s why residents keep their phones and laptops with them. We want the Orchard to feel like a microcosm of your real life, not a bubble and definitely not a jail.
At the Orchard, luxury doesn’t equate with lack of affordability. We do work with insurance and we are dedicated to providing great value for the money you spend on treatment. We encourage you to contact us with any questions about costs and insurance coverage. You can also verify your benefits here.
For many people, what often happens following treatment is that they receive a seemingly endless string of bills for add-on services. At the Orchard, we provide a single all-inclusive price upfront that depends on your level of care. So, you will know at the outset what you’re spending—and that’s it.
Additionally, we encourage prospective residents or their family members to take a tour of the Orchard any time. We are proud of the way our facilities are managed and are excited to show you around.
